This biennial event is organised by the American Medical Association (AMA), the British Medical Association (BMA) and the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).
This year's conference was held in Boston, Massachusetts with the theme 'Increasing Joy in Medicine'.

The 'Healthy Doctors Better Medicine' Conference took place in Adelaide during Thursday 3rd September to Saturday 5th September 2009. The keynote speakers were:
Professor Erica Frank, who has a major interest in doctors health research and is the founder of the Healthy Doc = Healthy Patient Project.
Professor Geoff Riley, Professor of Rural & Remote Medicine at the University of Western Australia. He worked in rural general practice in the 1980s before training as a psychiatrist. He is highly regarded as a teacher and has a special interest in care of doctors and their families.
The sub themes of the conference were:

- Adjusting to the stages in a medical career
- Issues for the medical employee
- Managing Doctor-patients
- The health of medical students/young doctors
